I think I like Jim LaFleur, a pirate looking for the Black Pearl, I mean “Black Rock” and joining Dharma as head of security since he has a special talent to negotiate with the Hostiles, Others, you know (them)!

This past episode 5×15 “Follow The Leader was one of the few episodes with no flashbacks, just flashing back to the future and the past! If you missed the ABC Lost Recap you can find it here (lost recap). (BOOOM)

In the Future we have John Locke who apparently is being led by the Island though we didn’t see the visions he usually has (those are great when they do that)… Apparently we also learn that no one is really talking to Jacob or getting orders from him, they are just using him as an excuse for whatever they are really doing. So John plans on killing him… tick, tick, tick… remember when He first met Jacob with Ben. Ben was talking to Jacob or at least pretending as we know now, but then He actually spoke to John asking for help! I think it is all coming together now. At some point Jacob was help prisoner on the Island and he has some connection to the Island as we know he is using Jacks Dad to help move things along. So we have:

Jacob and crew

The Hostiles (others)

Survivors of Flight 815

Dharma Group

Some new members that we really didn’t get into, but had asked John when he was off the Island to stop what he was doing… What are your thoughts?

OMG… I did not see that coming.

Pierre Change is the head scientist in the Dharma Initiative orientation films that we saw in earlier seasons as John Locke watched them as if they were instruction to him personally.

Pierre, who also goes by the names Marvin Candle, Mark Wickmund, and Edgar Halliwax (who can keep track!).

Well, I did say in an earlier post that the reference to Some Like it Hoth was referring to Star Wars Empire Strikes Back and I did not expect Hurley to be trying to write the script for George Lucas to make it better so we can avoid those stupid Ewoks! Well, this has nothing to do with the show, but it is funny.

A single mom checks out a small, crappy apartment with the manager. She tells him it’s just for her and her son — her husband is out of the picture. Her little eight year-old boy runs in and asks for money for the vending machines. She gives him some, and he runs off. She yells after him — no running, Miles. That’s right — this little boy is young Miles.

At the vending machine he suddenly stops, listening. He seems scared and confused. He can hear someone calling to him from inside an apartment. He crosses over to the door and puts his hand on it. Then he reaches down and finds a hidden key underneath a garden rabbit statue. But how did he know it was there? He puts the key in the door, unlocks it, and pushes it open –

Lara, his mom, is writing out the deposit check when she hears Miles scream. Lara and the apartment manager run to the other apartment and find Miles inside standing over a dead body. Young Miles says the man was alone and hurting. He kept calling out for Kimberly. The manager says Kimberly was the dead man’s wife who died last year. How’d Miles know that? Miles says the dead man told him. Lara is disturbed. What is Miles talking about? Then Miles says the dead man is still talking. Lara steps back, worried and scared. She tells Miles the man is dead, but Miles screams out that he can still hear him!

WHOOSH to Miles in the security station when Sawyer radios in. He asks Miles to accidentally erase the security tape for camera number 4. Miles sees Sawyer and Kate on the monitor and asks what they’re doing out there, and Sawyer tells him to just erase the tape. Sawyer is also going off the grid looking for Sayid, better known as their escaped “hostile.” Sawyer tells Kate he’ll do his best to cover up for them taking young Ben and giving him to the Others, but in the meantime she needs to go back to Juliet and see if anyone knows Ben’s missing.

Miles is about to pull the tape for camera 4 when Horace comes in and tasks him to take something out to Radzinsky at grid 334 and pick up a package. Miles hesitates — that’s hostile territory. They’re not supposed to be in 334. Horace says Miles is now in the circle of trust. Miles drives out to grid 334 and meets Radzinsky in the jungle. Radzinsky is angry it’s Miles and not LaFleur, but Miles assures him he’s in the circle of trust. Radzinsky signals his guys and they bring out a dead body, which they put in the body bag that Miles delivered. Miles asks what happened, and Radzinsky says the guy died falling into a ditch. But there’s an exit wound in the guy’s forehead that looks like he was shot. Radzinsky tells Miles to take the body back to Horace no questions asked. They disappear back into the jungle as Miles gets in the van. He waits until they’re gone, then unzips the body bag and asks the guy to tell him what really happened.

WHOOSH to Miles in his punk phase. He visits him mom as she lays dying in her bed. He wants to know before she goes why he can do the things he can do and why she won’t talk about his father. Lara says his father never cared about them. He kicked them out when he was just a baby and didn’t want anything to do with them. He wants to know where he is, and Lara says he’s dead. Miles asks why she didn’t tell him, and Lara says because it doesn’t matter. He’s been dead for a long time. Miles asks where his body is buried, and his mom says someplace he can never go.

WHOOSH to Miles returning with the “package” to Horace. Horace is on the phone with Dr. Pierre Chang, who wants the body brought out to him at the Orchid station. Miles heads back out to the van and discovers that Hurley has checked it out so he can deliver lunch to the construction crew at the Orchid station. He suggests they carpool, which will help global warming… which hasn’t happened yet, but maybe they can prevent it. Miles says no, Hurley can wait. But then Hurley realizes something and asks if Miles is on a secret mission. Miles pauses. Hurley is actually on to him. Miles has no choice, and they drive off together.

At the infirmary, Kate returns and tells Juliet they gave young Ben to the Others. Juliet asks if anyone saw them, and Kate says no. Juliet asks if Sawyer helped, and Kate says yes. Then Roger returns from the medical station with the supplies Juliet asked for — and sees that Ben’s bed is empty. Did he… die? Juliet says no, she left him for only ten minutes, and when she came back he was gone. Roger is angry and confused. Ben was dying, how could he just get up and walk out? Juliet’s a doctor — she’s supposed to watch him. He yells that he’s going to security and storms off. Resigned, Juliet turns to Kate and says, “Well. Here we go.”

Miles and Hurley drive in the van to the Orchid station. Hurley is writing in a notebook and asks how to spell “bounty hunter.” Miles asks him what he’s doing, and Hurley says it’s personal. Hurley then smells something bad in the van. He’s worried it could be the lunch for the crew, so he asks Miles to pull over. Miles reluctantly does, and Hurley finds the body in the body bag underneath a tarp. Hurley asks what happened to the guy. Miles says the guy’s name is Alvarez, and that he was digging a hole and thinking about a chick named Andrea when he felt a sharp pain in his mouth, which turned out to be a filling from his tooth being yanked out of its socket and blowing through his brain. Hurley asks how Miles knows all that, and Miles tells him they have to go. He realizes that Miles can talk to dead people. Hurley says his secret’s safe with him. He can talk to dead people, too.

WHOOSH to Miles leaving a house where he had a reading. At his car he’s approached by Naomi Dorrit, who tells him her employer has been following his work for some time and is interested in retaining his services. There’s a restaurant not too far from there, would Miles like to hear what she has to say? Miles smiles and says absolutely. She takes him to the kitchen of a closed-down restaurant. On a table is a dead body, and Miles says this really isn’t his thing. Naomi says it’s his audition, and from what she understands, this is exactly his thing. She throws him a wad of cash and asks Miles what he can tell her about the dead man. Miles closes his eyes and concentrates. The man was on his way to deliver some papers and pictures of empty graves to a guy named Widmore. The documents must have been swiped by the guy who shot him. This guy didn’t know who it was that shot him, so that means Miles doesn’t know either. Naomi tells him she’s leading an expedition to an island to find a man that will be very difficult to find. There are a number of deceased individuals killed by the man they’re looking for who can give them valuable information as to his whereabouts, and her employer is willing to pay Miles $1.6 million. Miles doesn’t hesitate and asks when do they leave?

WHOOSH to the island as Kate sees Roger drinking beer and sitting in a swing. He is clearly getting drunk and far from being okay. She tells him she’s sure things will work out. She has a feeling that Ben will be okay. Roger is suddenly suspicious. Does Kate know something about what happened to Ben? Kate realizes she said too much and leaves.

In the van, Hurley asks why Miles won’t admit can he talk to dead people. Hurley talks to lots of dead people, and sometimes they even play chess. Miles asks if Hurley actually sees them, and Hurley says of course. Miles says that’s not how it works. He says what he does has nothing to do with talking to ghosts. It’s a feeling, a sense. Hurley shrugs and says that’s how it works for him. They arrive at the Orchid, and Miles tells Hurley to keep quiet.

Chang comes out and is not pleased that Miles brought Hurley along. His instructions were to come alone. Hurley says it’s okay, he knows about the body. Chang can’t believe it. Hurley promises that he can keep a secret. Chang warns Hurley that if he can’t, he’ll ship Hurley off to Hydra island to weigh polar bear turds for their ridiculous experiments. Chang orders two guys to take the package inside. Chang follows them inside, chewing out a construction worker along the way. Hurley says that guy is a total douche. Miles sighs and says that douche is his dad. Hurley is surprised. How long has Miles known? Miles says on the third day they were there, his mother got in line behind him at the cafeteria. That was his first clue. Hurley reminds him that all the Dharma people end up dead. Doesn’t Miles want to save them? Miles says he can’t. Whatever happened, happened. Chang comes out and says he needs Miles to take him to Radzinsky at the Swan station site. Miles asks what happened to the body, and Chang says what body.

As they drive to the Orchid station, Hurley is in full-on matchmaking mode and asks Chang many leading questions. Can Chang talk about what he does with his wife? No, it’s classified. With his kids? Chang has a three month-old baby, so no. What’s his name? Miles. Small world — that’s Mile’s name, too. Miles stares straight ahead, hating what Hurley is doing. Hurley asks if Chang and Miles are tight — they’ve been on the island for three years now. Miles says they don’t exactly travel in the same circles. Chang didn’t realize there were circles. Hurley says well maybe they can all grab a beer some time.

They pull up to a secret gate hidden by jungle foliage, and Chang opens it. Miles drives them down into a construction site. Chang tells them they can leave. He’ll get a ride back with Radzinsky. Hurley asks what is this place and why all the secrecy? Miles doesn’t care. But then Hurley overhears a guy ask for the serial numbers to put on the hatch. Another guy reads them off: 4, 8, 15, 16, 23… And before he can say the last number, Hurley whispers it. 42. Miles asks Hurley how he knew, and Hurley says because they’re building the hatch that crashed his plane.

WHOOSH to Miles leaving a taco stand as a van pulls up besides him. Two guys jump out and drag Miles inside. A man named Bram tells Miles he needs to talk him out of working for Charles Widmore. Bram says Miles isn’t ready to go to that island and asks him if he knows what lies in the shadow of the statue? Miles doesn’t know what Bram is talking about, and Bram says he’s not ready to go. But if Miles goes with Bram, he can find out all the answers he’s spent his life trying to find out. Like who he is, why he has a gift… and information about his father. Miles says he only cares about money, and he’ll take a pass on going to the island if Bram doubles what Widmore is going to pay him. Miles wants $3.2 million. Bram laughs and says they’re not paying Miles anything. They stop and toss Miles out. Bram says Miles is playing for the wrong team. Miles asks what team Bram is on, and Bram says the one that’s going to win.

WHOOSH to the island as Miles and Hurley drive back to the barracks. Hurley asks if Miles’ dad is around in the future, and Miles says no. Hurley says this is awesome, Miles has a chance to get to know his dad. But Miles doesn’t want to know his dad. He wasn’t even around when Miles was a kid and didn’t care about him. Besides, it doesn’t matter. His dad is dead. Hurley says but he’s not. They just dropped him off. Miles grabs Hurley’s notebook and reads it — “Exterior Hoth.” What? Hurley admits he’s writing The Empire Strike Back because George Lucas is going to be looking for a sequel to Star Wars. Miles says that’s the stupidest thing he’s ever heard, and Hurley says at least he’s not afraid to talk to his own dad.

At Sawyer’s house, Jack tells Sawyer that Roger thinks Kate had something to do with Ben going missing, but Jack talked to Roger and thinks he’s not going to say anything for now. As Jack leaves, Phil walks up. He says he as a lead on who took the kid — Sawyer did. He holds up the security tape that Miles didn’t get a chance to erase. Sawyer says he has a perfectly good explanation for that — and punches Phil, knocking him out cold. He tells Juliet to get some rope.

At the motor pool, Hurley and Miles check in the van. Hurley admits that he used to hate his dad, too. But after his dad came back, he gave him a second chance and they got to be best friends. He doesn’t know if he’ll ever see him again, but he misses him. Miles says he never knew his dad and doesn’t want to. Hurley says that was Luke’s attitude, too. Luke found out that Vader was his father, and instead of talking to him, Luke overreacted and got his hand cut off. They eventually worked it out, but at what price? Another Death Star was destroyed, Boba Fett was eaten by the Sarlacc, and we got the Ewoks. And it all could’ve been avoided if they just communicated.

Miles crosses through the barracks on his way home and stops — reacts to what he sees. It’s Chang holding a little baby in his lap. Chang is holding baby Miles and reading to him! It’s an idyllic father-son moment, and his mom is in the back cooking dinner. Chang is animated, totally into the moment. Miles sees that despite what his mother told him, clearly this man loves his son. Then Chang gets a phone call and gives baby Miles to Lara. Chang hangs up and walks out. Miles walks in the opposite direction, but Chang sees him and says he needs his help. There’s a sub with scientists coming in from Ann Arbor.

Miles drives Chang down to the docks, and they help the scientists from headquarters unload. And as Miles is helping the last guy out — he sees that it’s Daniel Faraday returning to the island. Miles is surprised. Faraday smiles and says long time no see.

The TV show Lost s05e08 LaFleur we get to witness a big change in Sawyer as he uses his con skills to help not only save himself but his companions.

Sawyer, now James LaFleur who has a way to go back to the states but back in time decides he wants to find a way to stay and wait for John Locke to return figures a way to make peace between Dharma and the Hostiles.

After talking with Richard and convinces him that he is not from that time they are able to maintain peace and Sawyer becomes head of security and 3 years pass by. Now Sawyer and Juliet get to play house while the others make their way back to the island! Anyway, you can see the full details below in the video and below that with the s05e08 recap:

[See post to watch Flash video]

At the well in the jungle, Sawyer watches Locke’s descent. Then Sawyer hears the hum start up, and he knows a flash is coming. He grabs the rope and yells for Locke to hold on — and FAAZAAM! The flash resolves, but the well isn’t there anymore. The rope disappears directly into the ground. Sawyer frantically digs around the rope, but Juliet stops him and says they can’t help him. Wherever John went, he’s gone. They’re in a time before the well was built. Miles says way before, and points to the tree line. At the top of the trees in the distance they can see the back of an ancient, giant statue. Long hair flows over broad shoulders. And even though we don’t see them, we get the feeling that if we were to see this statue’s feet, they might just have four toes.

There’s no time to appreciate it because suddenly the rumbling hum starts again. But this time it’s different. Deeper, more violent. The blinding glare of white light washes over them, the ground drops beneath them and FAAAAA-ZAAAAM!

The flash subsides, and our group has been knocked on their backs. That one was different, more like an earthquake. Sawyer looks over and sees the well is back. He leaps up, grabs the rope, and jumps in to rescue Locke — but he discovers the well has been filled in with rocks. Then Juliet realizes her headache is gone. Miles says his is gone, too, and his nose isn’t bleeding. They think it’s over, that Locke did it. Sawyer says now they wait for him to come back. Juliet asks for how long? As long as it takes…

We start in a room with old computer equipment. A man walks in, turns on a stereo, a ’70s song plays, and he begins dancing with a woman. He’s wearing a Dharma jumpsuit. A second man, Phil, comes in and chastises the couple. Phil warns them that they’re on the clock, and they better hope LaFleur doesn’t find out. Then the woman notices something on one of the monitor screens. A man is out by the pylons. It’s Horace Goodspeed, and he’s lighting dynamite and blowing up trees! Jerry tells the woman to split, and he and Phil decide what to do next. The only answer is waking up LaFleur. They go to his house, knock, and LaFleur answers the door — it’s Sawyer! He grabs his jumpsuit, which reads “LaFleur — Head of Security” and leaves with Phil and Jerry.

Sawyer picks up Miles, who is also on the security team, and they drive out in a Dharma van to get Horace. They find him passed out and take him back home. Amy, his partner who is very pregnant, directs Sawyer to put Horace on the couch. Amy explains they had a fight about Paul when — uhhh! Amy is hit with contractions and she realizes the baby is coming.

Sawyer, Juliet, Jin and Miles find Faraday in the jungle mumbling to himself. Faraday tells them Charlotte died and in the last flash her body disappeared. She moved on and they stayed. They decide to head back to their beach camp. As they’re walking through the jungle — BAM! A gunshot rings out. They follow the sound to a clearing and see two Others dressed in ratty garb standing over a man and woman. Except the man is dead, and one of the Others forces a bag over the woman’s head. Miles doesn’t want to get involved, but Faraday says it doesn’t matter what they do. What happened, happened.

Sawyer decides to help. Juliet has his back. They sneak out and come up behind the Others. He orders them to put down their guns, but one turns to shoot Sawyer! The guy goes down, and Sawyer realizes Juliet shot and killed the Other. Sawyer turns and shoots the second Other. He crosses to the woman and removes the bag from her head. She’s scared and crying. She asks who they are. Sawyer tells her that their ship wrecked here on the way to Tahiti. Then he says they have to get out of there fast. The Others had a walkie, and they might’ve put out a call for help. But the woman, Amy, says they have to bury them. If the bodies are found, the truce is broken. Plus, they have to take Paul back. He was her husband. Sawyer agrees to help.

After they’re done, Amy leads the way back to the Dharma barracks. Miles is worried if they can convince the Dharma people that they were in a boat wreck, but Sawyer says they can — he’s a professional. He used to lie for a living. Suddenly, Juliet shouts out for Faraday to stop. They’re at the pylons, and Faraday was about to walk right through them. Before thinking, Juliet tells Amy to turn them off. Amy is suspicious. Juliet tries to explain that looks like some sort of sonic fence or something. Sawyer points out that they just saved Amy’s life and hid those bodies so she should trust them. Amy turns off the fence, but as they walk through, they all drop like dominos. They’re out cold. Amy then pulls out ear plugs and we realize she tricked them — she didn’t turn the fence off.

Sawyer helps the pregnant Amy to the infirmary, but the doctor there says Amy needs a Cesarean and he doesn’t know how to perform that operation. He’s an internist, not an obstetrician. Sawyer knows where to find an obstetrician. He goes to the motor pool and finds Juliet welding part of an undercarriage. Sawyer wants Juliet’s help, but Juliet says it breaks their agreement. Every time she tried to help a woman on the island give birth, the woman died. Sawyer says maybe whatever made that happen hasn’t happened yet. Juliet’s got to try. She’s the only one who can.

Juliet goes to the infirmary and takes over. Outside, Sawyer waits as Jin walks up and reports in that they finished grid 133 today and no sign of their people. Sawyer tells him to start grid 134 tomorrow. Jin asks how long they’re going to look, and Sawyer says as long as it takes. Juliet comes out and she’s crying. Sawyer’s concerned and asks what happened. Juliet says Amy and the baby are fine. She had a little boy.

fter being zapped by the sonic fence, Sawyer comes to in the rec room, and Horace Goodspeed is there waiting. Sawyer asks about his group and why he’s being questioned. Horace explains they have certain defense protocols because there are hostile indigenous people on the island. Sawyer says his name is Jim LaFleur and tells him the boat wreck lie. They were on a salvage vessel looking for a famous lost wreck: an old slave ship called the Black Rock. They got caught in a storm and wrecked on the island. After they washed ashore, they went into the jungle looking for their missing crew. Horace tells Sawyer that they have a submarine leaving the next morning. Sawyer and his friends will be on it, and they’ll be dropped off in Tahiti. Sawyer wants a week or two to find his missing crew, but Horace says no. If they turn up, he’ll send them along. Their rules are the only people who can stay in the facility are Dharma Initiative members, and don’t take this the wrong way but Sawyer is just not Dharma material.

Jin, Juliet, Miles and Faraday sit outside by the swings. Juliet points out that her house was just over there. She lived there when the Others took over the barracks. Jin asks if there will be any more flashes, and Faraday says no, no more flashes. The record is spinning again, they’re just on the wrong song. Then Faraday sees a woman with red hair walking in the distance… and with her is a little girl with long red hair. Faraday mutters to himself, “Charlotte.”

Sawyer and Horace cross over to them and explain they’ll be leaving in the morning — when an alarm sounds! Dharma members panic and race inside their houses. Phil hustles Sawyer’s group inside the nearest house. Out the window they see Richard Alpert walking into the compound. He approaches Horace and says their truce has been broken. Alpert wants to know where his two men are. From inside the house, Sawyer watches Horace and Alpert argue. Horace comes inside and is ready to start a war with the Hostiles, but Sawyer says let him talk to Alpert.

Sawyer goes outside and tells Alpert he is the one who killed the men. He explains what happened, that he gave them a chance to lay down their weapons and walk away, but they took a shot at him and he defended himself. The Dharma Initiative isn’t his people, so their truce hasn’t been broken. Alpert wants to know who he is, and Sawyer simply asks if they buried “Jughead,” the hydrogen bomb. Alpert is intrigued and asks how Sawyer knows about that. Sawyer says the same way he knows that 20 years ago John Locke came into their camp, said he’s their leader and then disappeared. Sawyer is there waiting for John Locke to come back. Alpert says no matter who they are, two of his men are dead and there needs to be some kind of justice.

Sawyer and Horace go to Amy and tell that LaFleur worked out the agreement with the Hostiles. He told them where they buried the bodies of the two men, but they also have to give them the body of Paul. Amy is emotional and says Paul would do it to keep them safe, so she agrees. But before she lets them take his body, Amy removes an Egyptian ankh from around Paul’s neck. Horace tells Sawyer that the sub is coming back in two weeks. They can stay that long and look for their crew.

Sawyer tells Juliet he bought them two weeks, but Juliet wants to leave. She’s been trying to get off the island for over three years and this is her chance. But Sawyer is hurt — she’s going to leave him? Who’ll have his back? Juliet is charmed and says okay. He has two weeks.

awyer walks to his house. He stops and picks a flower and takes it to… Juliet, who is fixing dinner. He tells her she was amazing today, and Juliet thanks him for believing in her. She puts her arms around his neck, and they kiss. She tells him she loves him, and Sawyer says he loves her, too.

Horace wakes up with a hangover, and Sawyer tells him Amy had the baby. Horace explains that he found Paul’s Egyptian ankh in the back of drawer. He got upset that Amy kept it all this time and wonders if three years is enough to get over someone. Sawyer tells him that he had a thing for a woman once but it didn’t work out. He wondered if he would ever stop thinking about her. Caring about her. But now he can barely remember her face. She’s gone, and she’s never coming back. Is three years long enough to get over somebody? Absolutely.

The next morning, Sawyer and Juliet are woken up by their phone ringing. Jin is on the other end, and Sawyer is shocked to hear what Jin reports and tells him not to bring them in, to meet in the North Valley. Sawyer rushes out, not telling Juliet what it’s about, and drives out to the meeting point. Jin drives up in the Dharma van and stops… and out steps Hurley. Then Jack. And the last person out is Kate. She sees him and smiles. Sawyer is amazed — BOOM.

We see that a few Characters Jack, Hurley, Kate, & Sayid arrive in Dharma Time 1977. They of course are not aware yet of the time difference but they will soon find out. The interesting thign is Jack was the only one going crazy trying to find a way back as if his life was not complete and he turned to his Fathers way of life by drinking and pushing everyone away!

Now that he is on the Island it is as if he lost his urges to drink and be crazy!

[See post to watch Flash video]

Ajira flight 316 flies through the night as it suddenly hits turbulence. Lapidus and his co-pilot struggle to control the plane. A white light begins to flood the windows, alarms blare, and the plane shakes violently. Lapidus is able to right the plane as the white light washes over them — and suddenly it’s day. Lapidus has no time to figure out why because the plane is about to crash into a jungle-covered island mountaintop! He yells out an order for more power, slams the controls over and they bank steeply around the mountain. The co-pilot screams mayday into his radio. Lapidus spots a smaller island with a dirt landing strip. He aims for it and is able to put the plane down, but they’re going too fast and running out of space quickly. They crash into the trees at the end of the runway –

Blackness. Lapidus regains consciousness and sees that a huge tree branch has exploded through the window and impaled his co-pilot. He stumbles into the main cabin and sees the hellish conditions. Luggage and human bodies have been tossed around indifferently. He finds Sun, and she’s okay. But where are Jack, Kate and Hurley? Gone, a man says from behind, and Lapidus turns to see Benjamin Linus standing there. Lapidus asks gone where? Ben says how would he know.

WHOOSH to thirty years ago on the island. Sawyer watches as Hurley, Jack and Kate step out of Jin’s Dharma van. It’s been three years for them, and the shock of seeing each other again registers. Sawyer can’t believe they’re actually there. Locke said he was going to bring them back. Sawyer asks where Locke is, and Jack tells him Locke is dead. Sawyer is saddened. Hurley asks why he and Jin are dressed in old Dharma jumpsuits. Sawyer explains they’re in the Dharma Initiative. Jack asks if they came back to the island, and Sawyer says no. It’s 1977. Jack, Kate and Hurley are thunderstruck. They try to get their bearings. Sawyer says he’s been with the Dharma Initiative for three years, the same amount of time the Oceanic Six have been gone. Sawyer wants to take them back to the barracks, but Hurley wants to find everyone else from the plane. Jin asks who’s everyone else, and Jack says Sayid, Lapidus… and Sun. Jin’s face falls. He races to the van, shouting out that he’s going to the Flame. If a plane landed on the island, Radzinsky would know it.

Sawyer tells them to stay put until he can figure out a way to explain how they got there, and he goes back to the barracks. He finds Juliet at home and explains that Jack and Hurley are back… along with Kate. It hits Juliet hard. Sawyer says he’s got to figure out a way to bring them in before someone else finds them. Juliet tells him a sub is coming in this afternoon, and Sawyer starts formulating a plan.

Jin races into the Flame station asking Radzinsky if the radar picked up a plane that crashed on the island. Radzinsky scoffs, says it didn’t happen. Jin makes him check with the other stations — but then an alarm goes off. They’ve got a hostile inside the perimeter. Jin sees the location, grabs a rifle and takes off, Radzinsky right behind him.

WHOOSH to Hydra island as Lapidus gathers the survivors around him. He explains that the radio is dead. They need to stick together and wait for help to get there. Caesar asks where they are, and Lapidus doesn’t know. The island isn’t on their maps. Caesar points out that there are buildings close by. And animal cages. And a bigger island across the water. He says maybe they should go look in the buildings — maybe they’d find a radio. Some of the survivors nod, and Lapidus realizes Caesar is going to be a problem.

Out of the corner of her eye, Sun sees Ben sneak away and she follows him. Ben says he’s going back to their island, and asks Sun if she wants to go. She asks if that’s where Jin is, and Ben says he doesn’t know but it’s a good place to start looking. Lapidus catches up with them and asks Sun why she’s trusting Ben. Sun says she has to.

WHOOSH to Dharma times as Juliet checks in on Amy. Since Amy just had her baby, Juliet doesn’t want her working and offers to take the sub manifest. Amy says it’s almost a full load. A couple recruits dropped out because they didn’t want to take the sedative. Juliet checks on the baby and asks if they decided on a name. Amy says yes, they’ve decided on Ethan. Juliet tries to hide her reaction and smiles.

Jin searches through the jungle and comes face-to-face with Sayid! Sayid is wearing a pair of plastic handcuffs and is dumbstruck to see Jin. Jin asks where Sun is, but Sayid doesn’t know. Then Radzinsky burst through the brush and Jin has to think fast. Jin shoves Sayid to the ground and aims the rifle at his head. He tells Sayid not to say another word or he’s dead.

Sawyer returns to Jack, Kate and Hurley and explains that they’ll be part of the recruits coming off the sub. There isn’t another sub coming for six months, so they have to hurry or they’ll be camping in the jungle for a long time. He hands them ’70s clothes to change into and drives them to the barracks to be processed. He explains that Juliet has put their names on the list. They go through intake and get their assignments: Hurley is in the cafeteria, Kate is in the motor pool, and Jack is a workman. Miles arrives and is shocked to see them again. He tells Sawyer that Jin has a hostile at the Flame, and it’s Sayid.

Sawyer drives to the Flame station and asks Jin what’s going on. Jin says Radzinsky thinks Sayid is a hostile and won’t leave them alone. Sawyer talks to Radzinsky, who says the hostile saw the model of the Swan station. He thinks Sayid’s a spy and wants to shoot him. Sawyer takes Sayid out of the storage room, and before Sayid can say anything, Sawyer jumps in. He tells Sayid to identify himself as a hostile according to the terms of the truce… or they have the right to shoot him. Sayid says yes, he is one of them. Sawyer tells him now they can proceed like gentlemen and takes him to the security station. Radzinsky is not happy about it and tells Sawyer he’s going to take this to Horace.

WHOOSH to Hydra island where Ben uncovers three outriggers. Sun asks Lapidus to come with them, but he says he has those people to take care of. Ben agrees and says he needs to take care of his people, too. He explains where the dock is on the main island — but THWACK! Sun smashes Ben in the head with a paddle and knocks him out. Lapidus thought she trusted him, and Sun says she lied.

It’s night by the time they paddle over to the dock at the main island. Something black and ominous scurries through the bushes. Sun says it’s just an animal. They continue into the empty barracks. No one is there. It’s abandoned, a ghost town, and it’s eerily quiet. Suddenly they are surrounded by disembodied whispers that fill the night air. As the whispers fall silent, a single light flicks on in a building. The door opens, and in the doorway stands a man. It’s Christian Shephard. Sun asks if he knows where Jin is, and Christian tells them to follow him.

Christian leads them into the old processing center and over to a wall of framed photos. He points out the one from 1977 and says her husband is with their friends. Sun and Lapidus look at the washed-out old photo of new recruits in their Dharma jumpsuits and see Jack, Kate and Hurley in the group. Christian tells them they have a bit of a journey ahead of them.

WHOOSH back to Dharma times as the photographer takes the new recruit photo and makes everyone say, “Namaste!” As they disperse to their new homes, Jack, Kate and Hurley see Sawyer pull up and take Sayid into the security station. Sawyer gives them a look that says don’t ask, I’ll explain it later. In the security station, Sawyer locks Sayid in a cell. He orders them to bring Sayid some food.

Later that night, Jack knocks on Sawyer’s house and is surprised to find Juliet there. He says he was looking for Sawyer and must have the wrong house, but she says he doesn’t and invites him in. Sawyer is there reading, and Jack suddenly realizes they’re a couple! Juliet leaves them alone to talk, and Jack asks what’s going on. Sawyer tells him that Sayid is safe and that he’s working on what happens next. Jack isn’t happy with that answer. Sawyer says he wants time to think, which he’s sure makes no sense to Jack. When Jack was calling the shots, he liked to simply react — and a lot of people wound up dead. Jack says he got them off the island, but Sawyer points out that he’s right back where he started. Jack leaves, and Sawyer watches him go. He looks over and sees Kate standing on her porch watching him. He nods and then walks back into his house and closes the door.

In the security station, a young bespectacled kid enters carrying a sandwich for Sayid. He asks Sayid if he’s a hostile. Then the kid asks his name, and Sayid tells him. The kid says his name is Ben, and Sayid realizes this is young Benjamin Linus. BOOM.

We really get into John Locke as a leader and that Ben Linus must now follow him and do what he says! Does this Mean Ben has changed?

We know a few things here about Ben. He loves the Island and will do anything to protect it. We get a glimpse of this as we see flashbacks of Ben as a younger man and facing up to Charles Whitemore who apparently does not like Ben and asks him to do something similar to what Ben asked John to to do in Season 4 (to kill his own father).

I have to say that his was one of the best episodes as we were able to watch Ben get taught a huge lesson by the Island. I can’t wait to see what he does next! Below the video I have also included a text recap provided by ABC.com. You can also watch this episode at ABC.com for a limited time.

[See post to watch Flash video]

A man riding a horse gallops into an encampment. He’s in his 40s, has an English accent and is angry. He makes a bee-line to Richard Alpert and demands to know if it’s true he brought one of “them” to the Temple. Alpert says he was just a boy, and he was dying. The Englishman doesn’t care and says he should’ve let the boy die. Alpert stops him and says Jacob wanted it done. Alpert explains that the island chooses who the island chooses.

The Englishman goes inside the tent to see the recovering young Benjamin Linus. He introduces himself as Charles Widmore. Young Ben doesn’t remember what happened or how he got there. Widmore explains he’ll be taken to his father shortly, but Young Ben doesn’t want to go back. He wants to stay there with the Others. Widmore explains that just because Ben is living with them doesn’t mean he can’t be one of them. Ben should be dead, but the island saved his life.

WHOOSH to the Hydra station and the makeshift infirmary. Adult Ben gains consciousness after being knocked out, and Locke is sitting next to the bed. Ben is amazed Locke is alive. Ben says he knew this would happen. Locke asks why Ben was trying to run away, and Ben explains he was going over to the main island to be judged. He broke the rules — he came back and he wasn’t supposed to. Locke asks judged by who, and Ben says the monster.

At the beach, Caesar asks Ben what he makes of Locke, who claims that Ben was the one who killed him. Ben plays it off and says Locke looks fine to him. Ben plants the thought into Caesar’s mind that maybe Locke was already here before the crash and is crazy. Caesar reveals the sawed-off shotgun and says he has Ben’s back.

WHOOSH to a younger Ben in the jungle on a stealth mission. A teenage Ethan is with him and tells Ben he can do it if Ben wants. Ben shushes him, and tells him to stay there. Ben creeps out to a make-shift shelter on the beach and quietly steps inside. There sleeping next to her baby girl is young Danielle Rousseau. Ben accidentally knocks over her music box and it starts playing — waking Rousseau instantly. She reaches for her rifle, but Ben points his gun at her and warns her not to do it. Ben sees that Rousseau is scared. Feral. Crazy in the eyes. Rousseau claims Ben is the one who infected them. Ben picks up the crying baby Alex, and Rousseau yells for him to stop. Ben fires a warning shot. He tells her to be grateful she’s still alive, and warns her not to follow him or try to come looking for her baby. And if she wants her child to live, every time she hears whispers, she should run the other way.

WHOOSH back to Ben’s office in the Hydra station as he goes through his desk. He finds a picture of him and Alex together and folds it into his pocket. Locke comes in and asks if they can talk about the elephant in the room — why Ben killed him. Ben says it was the only way to get him back to the island with as many of the people who left. Locke understood that. It’s why he was about to kill himself before Ben stopped him. Locke asks why did Ben stop him. Ben says Locke had critical information that would’ve died with him. Once he told Ben, well… Ben didn’t have the time to talk Locke back into killing himself. It was in the best interests of the island. Locke says he’s decided to help Ben go back to the main island to be judged, and they leave.

At the beach, Caesar tries to stop them from taking one of the outriggers. He reaches into his bag for the shotgun, but Ben has it now. Ben holds it up and KRAKOOOM! Shoots Caesar in the chest! Ben turns to Locke and says consider that his apology. They take an outrigger and paddle over to the dock on the main island. Ben says they need to go to his old house. It’s the only place he can summon the monster. Locke guesses that Ben doesn’t want to be judged for breaking the rules because Ben doesn’t care about the rules. This gets underneath Ben’s skin, and Ben asks then what does he want to be judged for? Locke says for killing his own daughter.

WHOOSH to a younger Ben returning to the Others’ camp with baby Alex in his arms. Widmore is furious. Ben’s orders were to exterminate Rousseau. Ben asks why? She wasn’t a threat, and she’s insane. Plus he didn’t know she had a kid. Widmore orders him to kill it. Ben offers baby Alex to Widmore — says if killing the baby is what the island wants, then he can do it. Widmore can’t do it either. He glares at Ben and walks away. Alpert looks over and gives Ben a look of approval.

WHOOSH to the barracks now at night. Ben and Locke make their way through the compound. Locke asks why the Others moved into the houses after the purge. It doesn’t seem like something the island would want. Ben says Locke wouldn’t know the first thing about what the island wants, but Locke asks if he’s sure about that?

Suddenly, a light goes on in one of the rooms of a house. Ben says it’s Alex’s old room, and he goes inside. He walks to Alex’s room and flings open the door — and Sun is inside. She startles. Lapidus runs in behind Ben. He asks what they are doing there, and Lapidus shows him the picture of the new Dharma recruits from 1977. Ben is shocked to see Jack, Kate and Hurley in the photo. He asks who gave it to them. Sun says an old man named Christian who told them to wait for John Locke, but Lapidus says since he’s dead they aren’t holding their breath. Ben tells them to look outside — and they see Locke, who offers a friendly wave.

They meet inside Ben’s living room. Sun doesn’t understand. It’s impossible for Locke to have died but now be alive. Locke agrees but there he is. Lapidus thinks the whole thing is crazy and just wants to go back to the plane. Maybe they can get the radio working. Locke tells Sun if she leaves, she’ll never find her husband again. He has some ideas of how to find Jin and the others. Sun decides to stay. Locke says they’ll get started — right after Ben does what he has to do.

Ben swings aside a bookshelf and goes inside his secret room. He slides the fake wall away and we see the large stone brick with runic symbols on it. Ben pushes it backwards, revealing a dark stairway down to a tunnel. He crawls through the narrow tunnel to a pit with a dank pool of standing water. Ben reaches into the water, grabs a hold of something and twists it. The water drains out of the pool down a darkened hole. Ben says he’ll be waiting outside.

WHOOSH to Ben pushing three year-old Alex on the swings. Richard Alpert comes over and says it’s time. Ben goes to the dock where Charles Widmore is being escorted to the sub. Ben says he came to say good-bye, but Widmore says he’s there to gloat. Ben tells Widmore that he brought it all on himself. He left the island regularly. He had a daughter with an outsider. He broke the rules. Widmore asks what makes Ben think he deserves to take away what’s his, and Ben says because he won’t be selfish. Ben will sacrifice everything to protect the island. Widmore reminds him he wouldn’t sacrifice Alex, and Ben fires back that it was Widmore who wanted Alex dead, not the island. Widmore says he hopes Ben is right because if the island wants Alex dead, then she’ll be dead. And one day Ben will be the one who’s being banished.

WHOOSH back to Ben’s house as he waits for the smoke monster. Sun thinks Jack lied about Locke being dead, but Ben assures her that Locke was dead. He’s seen the island do miraculous things, but never once has he seen this. Dead is dead. There’s no coming back from that. And Locke walking around scares the living hell out of him.

He hears a rustle in the jungle and tells Sun to go inside because what’s about to come out of the jungle is something Ben can’t control. But it’s Locke who comes out of the jungle. He asks any luck? Ben says it hasn’t shown up yet. Locke says that they have to go to it. He knows where the smoke monster is.

WHOOSH to Los Angeles as Ben walks through the marina where Desmond and Penny have docked their sailboat. Ben calls Widmore and says he’s going back to the island today just as soon as he does one last thing — kill Widmore’s daughter. He’s looking at Penny right now — and we dolly around to reveal Penny on the deck of the boat, unaware of the danger she is in. Widmore starts to threaten Ben, and Ben simply hangs up.

WHOOSH to the island and Locke leads Ben and Sun through the jungle. Ben says he now knows where Locke is taking them. It’s the same place they brought him when he was a child. When the island healed him — and they reach the outer wall of the Temple. Ben says it’s another half mile beyond the wall, which was built to keep people like Sun and Locke from ever seeing it. Locke tells Ben they’re not going to Ben’s Temple, they’re going under it. Locke gestures to the large crack and hole in the corner leading down to a dark chasm. Ben turns to Sun and asks if Sun ever makes it off the island to find Desmond Hume and tell him that he’s sorry. Sun asks sorry for what, and Ben says Desmond will know.

WHOOSH to the marina as Ben walks down the pier towards Penny. He doesn’t notice Desmond behind him getting bags of groceries out of his car. Desmond calls out to Ben — and Ben pulls out a gun and fires! BLAM! A bullet rips into Desmond’s shoulder and he goes down. Penny hears the gun shot and turns to see Ben walking down the pier towards her. She screams out for Desmond, but Ben points the gun at her and tells her not to move. He apologizes that she’s been caught up in this, but her father is a terrible human being. Charles Widmore responsible for killing his daughter and taking away the only thing that mattered to him. He broke the rules — and then young Charlie runs up on the deck shouting for his mom. Ben is surprised to see the child and lowers his gun. And just then Desmond broadsides Ben, and they crash to the dock. Before Ben can react, Desmond beats Ben senseless, even with his bad arm. Desmond then throws him off the dock into the water.

WHOOSH to the tunnel underneath the Temple. Ben admits that Locke was right about why he needed to be judged. The men Charles Widmore sent gave him a choice. All he had to do is walk out of the house and go with them… but he didn’t. So he killed Alex, and now he has to answer for it. Ben tells Locke thanks for showing him the way but he can continue alone. He’ll meet Locke outside if he lives through it –

– Then KROOM! The floor beneath Ben crumbles and he falls through to an ancient chamber. Locke yells down he’ll go find something to help Ben out and he leaves. Ben looks around his dark surroundings… and suddenly he hears something hiss. It gradually becomes the TIKA TIKA TIKA as smoke gradually wafts into the room. There’s a long, drawn-out grumble as inky black smoke emerges out of a vent.

The black smoke monster fills the room and roils around Ben. Ben is terrified. Then POP! POP! POP! Flashes start going off within the smoke monster, white bursts which illuminate various images of Ben’s past. We hear the voice of Charles Widmore rushing out of the darkness telling Ben he should have killed it. Then we hear Alex yell at Ben that she hates his guts, she wishes he was dead… Then he hears Alex pleading for her life before Keamy shoots her in the head.

And then the black smoke rolls away and slides back into the vents from whence it came. Ben is all alone now… but then behind him Alex appears. Not a dream or a vision but a real live young woman. She says hello, and Ben apologizes. He says it was all his fault… and Alex says she knows. Then it happens fast — she grabs Ben by the throat and shoves him against the wall. She says she knows he’s planning to kill Locke again, and she warns him not to touch Locke. If he does, she’ll hunt Ben down and destroy him. Ben will listen to every word Locke says and follow his every order. Ben swears he’ll follow Locke — and like that Alex is gone. Ben drops to the floor. Then from above, Locke shouts out to Ben. He asks what happened, and Ben said it let him live.

On Hydra island, Lapidus returns in the outrigger. Ilana is waiting there with Bram. They’re in charge now. She asks Lapidus, “What lies in the shadow of the statue?” Lapidus has no idea what she’s asking — and THWACK! Ilana smashes him in the face with a rifle butt. She turns to Bram and tells him to get everyone else. It’s time. Tie Lapidus up — they’re taking him with them.

Well, this episode of course left us with a cliff hanger. What are these “hostiles” or “others” are they aliens! OMG… Probably not. But we know that Ben will live and that somehow the “others” will heal him and change him at the same time so he becomes one of them “evil?” or are they some kind of hero group that will do anything to better the world, including make all the cast of “lost” crazy!

Kate has a few moments here when we see the flashback of her life after leaving the Island we see a whole new Kate (proving how powerful the island really is)… She makes a very hard choice to give up Aron to his rightful place with Claire’s mother. We know this was not easy for her and her performance was so believable that anyone watching felt her pain! The growth Kate showed this episode from giving up Aron to doing whatever it took to save Little Ben was amazing.

Oh and you have to enjoy Hurley stumping Miles Straume on the whole time travel thing. I think they did that on purpose to let us figure it out on how it works. My theory is that for some they don’t remember the past events until they meet up with the people from their past in the future. But for Ben he remembers all of it, but because he is a man with a plan he only gives hints of what he knows.
